The Texas Legislature passed House Bill 3 which changes the punsihment of repeat offenders of aggravated sexual assault and sexual assault.

Now, if a person has a previous conviction for aggravated sexual assault or sexual assault and that person is subsequently convicted of the same offense then the court shall assess punishment of life-without-parole. Previously, a repeat offender would be sentenced to life in prison. However, that offender would eventually become eligible for parole.
