Embezzlement is a term that makes the crime seem like it would be a very complicated crime. Embezzlement is a criminal offense that is a form of financial fraud. This crime occurs when one has been entrusted with assets and the person then hides/secrets the assets in violation of the agreement between the owner of the assets.
There are several common situations. A financial advisor or stockbroker could receive funds from someone for investment purposes. The money must be dispersed per the agreement. However, the act of embezzlement is committed when the financial advisor then appropriates those funds for his or her own personal use.
