Surrogacy Scam Creates Illegal Inventory Of Babies
Keeping with the theme from the last week-and-a-half, today's blog will evaluate a relatively new phenomenon. In San Diego, three women recently pleaded guilty to illegally creating an inventory of babies. Apparently, the three would visit adoption or surrogacy themed chat rooms to find surrogates.
They would then convince the surrogates to trave to the Ukraine to become implanted with embryos from anonymous sources. Surrogacy laws generally require a contract to be drafted between the parents and surrogates. However, these conspirators would wait long into the pregnancy and then arrange a contract between the surrogate and parents. The contract would cost approximately $100,000 to $150,000. The contract would also put a fictitious date on it to comply with the statute.
The conspiracy was determined when a woman who was seven months pregnant contacted the authorities. If you have been charged with fraud,
