Two Arrested For Illegal Cock-Fighting Operation
Two people were arrested in Dayton, Texas for running an illegal cock-fighting operation. Deputies arrested the two men after they received an anonymous tip indicating that a cock-fighting ring was active in Dayton. Police officers arrived Saturday afternoon on scene and when they arrived several suspects fled the scene.
After a search of the premises, the police found many dead and dying fowl. There was a small barn constructed with a "fighting ring" inside the barn. There was other evidence of cock fights--including animals that were pinned in cages and had steel blades attached. A trailer was found contained carpeted wood cages, lights, a gun, and a steel machete.
The police rescued approximately 50 live birds. These individuals will face several serious sentences. Texas takes animal cruelty cases seriously and will prosecute these individuals with all of their available resources.
