Federal Sex Offender List
Texas is engaged in a battle with the federal government regarding the
Adam Walsh Act. This a
federal law aimed at creating a national sex offender registry. The
federal law will divide those convicted of crimes into three categories and has a different registration length and renewal for each category.
Under current Texas law, depending on the crime of which the person is convicted, a convicted
sex offender can be forced to register for a period of
ten years, or even for life. The
federal law would require Texas to change its system regarding the offenses that would require registration.
