Denton Man Who Robbed Woman in Store Parking Lot Charged With Capital Murder
A Denton man will face a capital murder charge in Dallas as a result of the death of a 76-year-old Dallas woman. Around 5:30 in the evening, Rogelio C. Belmonte approached the victim in a parking lot in his truck and began a conversation with the victim. He then grabbed her purse and drove off. The victim, however, was dragged about forty yards before she fell to the ground. As she let go of the purse, his truck ran over the victim and later died from the injuries.
Capital murder charges are the most serious offenses in the State of Texas. Prosecutors, for obvious reasons, take these charges very seriously. In order to be convicted of capital murder, the State must prove that the defendant intentionally committed the murder in the court of committing or attempting to commit
robbery. The State will have to prove that the defendant intentionally murdered the victim--obviously, the murder occurred during the commission of a robbery.
