Dallas County Constables Investigation - Update
This is an update to our previous post on the Dallas County Constable Investigation.
Former FBI agent hired to investigate two Dallas County constables testifies before a grand jury.
A former FBI agent hired by Dallas County commissioners to investigate the employment practices of two constables testified before a grand jury this morning for about 45 minutes.
Defenbaugh was subpoenaed to appear, but the nature of his testimony is unclear. It’s also unclear how many other subpoenas have been issued in the case. The district attorney’s office has declined to comment.
Commissioners hired Defenbaugh last month to conduct a civil investigation of Constables Derick Evans and Jaime Cortes because they didn’t believe District Attorney Craig Watkins would properly investigate numerous allegations against them.
Defenbaugh, who doesn’t have subpoena power, has spoken to dozens of current and former constable employees who volunteered to speak with him, county officials said. His investigation is expected to conclude in a few weeks.
