Jones, 39, was arrested by Richardson police on Greenville Avenue at about 9:30 Sunday night.
People in the neighborhood at the time told police they saw a vehicle driving erratically. An officer stopped the car and tried to give Jones a breathalyzer test, but he refused.
Police say Jones briefly resisted arrest and they forced him to the ground to get the handcuffs on him. They say the scrapes on his face are a result of the struggle. Mugshot.
Jones bonded out of jail at about 4:30 Monday morning.
Jones reportedly refused to take a breathalyzer test and sustained facial abrasions as he resisted arresting officers, who took him to the ground.
The police said that Jones, a player development coach for the Mavs, will not be charged with resisting arrest.
He was not present in the team's practice Monday.
Head coach Rick Carlisle and Mavs owner Mark Cuban declined to comment on the issue.
Jones, originally selected by the Houston Rockets in the 1992 NBA Draft, had two stints with the Mavs in his playing career.
Apart from Dallas, Jones also played with Boston, Denver, Washington and Golden State.
